Cost of Animal Protein

This chart visualizes annual average prices of ground beef, chicken, wieners, and canned salmon.

Although, there is a constant long-term rise in prices, the movement of the graphs suggest that different global factors impact the price of these goods differently. For example, the rise in the price of aluminum impacts the price of of canned salmon but not ground beef for chicken. Cost of hay and soy protein impacts beef but not canned salmon.

Cost of Juice

This chart visualizes annual average prices of apple juice, orange juice, and tomato juice from 1995 to 2021.

There is a steady increase in prices over the long-term. However, prices rose sharply for orange juice around 1998. This is because the 1998 yield of Florida oranges was 22% smaller than last year. This was due to damaged orange groves from heavy El Nino rains followed by an unusually dry spring and summer.
